Ukrainian Support
The Ukrainian Support Workers, funded by the HSE and AMIF, provides comprehensive assistance to the Ukrainian community, focusing on key areas such as social welfare, healthcare, housing, and family support. Each case is approached individually, ensuring that people receive the most appropriate help for their specific needs.
Support includes guiding individuals through Ireland’s welfare system, including enrolments, restoring entitlements, and communicating with Departments and Services.
In health care, assistance is provided with medical cards, disability applications, and the provision of interpreting services at GP and hospital visits. Particular attention is given to Mental Health support for both adults and children, helping families access relevant services and resources.
Housing and long-term integration support remain central to this role. The support worker advises on accommodation issues, mediates with housing providers, and helps people transition to independent living. In emergencies, immediate solutions are sought to prevent homelessness.
Regular communication via community channels ensures that Ukrainians in Tralee stay informed and connected. This work helps individuals navigate complex systems, and also feel safe, supported, and empowered as they rebuild their lives in Ireland.
Family Support
Families, especially those with special needs or elderly members, receive personalised assistance from a Ukrainian Family Support Worker (funded by Tusla). Some individuals require long-term support, while others may need help only occasionally. Collaboration with support agencies via Meitheals ensures that families get the right services and resources to address their unique challenges.
Parenting Support
Our sessions are specially designed gatherings for Ukrainian mothers seeking support, inspiration, and connection. These meetings provide a safe and nurturing environment for women to share their experiences, learn new tools for personal growth, and find motivation in the company of others who face similar challenges
Over-55s Club
Every second Thursday, a group of older Ukrainians meets to chat, sing, dance, and play board games over coffee and treats. This initiative was born from the realisation that older refugees often struggle the most with integration, due to language barriers and social isolation. These gatherings offer them a chance to connect, make friends, and feel less alone in a foreign land.
