Education Support

The aim of TIRC's Family Support Worker (Education) is to ensure equality of access and participation in education services, while strengthening the links between parents and schools.

This Tusla-funded role was created following a research study commissioned by TIRC, with funding provided by HSE, that investigated the educational needs of migrant families in the Tralee area, and then developed an action plan that met those needs.

Our Education Family Support Worker is Magda Jankowska. Magda supports families to find school placements for their children, building relationships with schools to ensure retention, while liaising with Education Welfare Officers and Home School Liaison Officers in the process.

Her role also includes the provision of support to access educational and psychological assessments. This work involves making referrals to health care professionals, state agencies and mentors, where required.

Organising activities for young people, focusing on personal development and wellbeing, is another key part of the role. This is complimented by organising workshops for parents on related topics, such as providing information on the statutory services that are available to them.
