Family Support
TIRC's Family Support Worker (FSW) position is funded through the HSE. The work focuses on the IPA families in the Johnston Marina Direct Provision (DP) Centre, but also broadens out to support families in the wider international community. As well as one-to-one support, the FSW facilitates many initiatives with the families.
Each week the FSW makes 2 to 3 outreach visits to offer face-to-face support to all residents living in the Johnston Marina Direct Provision Centre. This creates an opportunity for all existing and new residents to meet the FSW and seek the necessary support that will allow them to settle in Tralee.
Women’s Group
The TIRC Women’s Group meets every Wednesday from 10am–12pm, and is a social space for women to meet, exchange information, and support each other. The group offers a variety of activities such as Arts & Crafts, intercultural healthy cooking, sewing, health information and wellbeing talks, Zumba fitness dance, tea and coffee, and more.
Parent Toddler Group
The Parents and Toddler Group meets every Friday from 10am–12pm, to offer parents and their toddlers a space to meet and explore play with their babies, and interact with other parents. The group have access to a child-friendly play environment, can share skills and explore child development at different ages, and make friends. It also offers parents a large network for integration with parents from many nationalities and the local community.
